Storm falls to Wartburg

WAVERLY, Iowa – No. 11 Wartburg got a pair of first-half goals from Katy Wendt as Simpson fell to the Knights in the Iowa Conference opener for both teams, 2-0 Saturday at the Wartburg Soccer Complex.

Simpson (4-5, 0-1 IIAC) attempted three shots on the afternoon, with all three coming in the second half. Ashlee Krider (Fr., Norwalk, Iowa) put her shot attempt on goal, the Storm's only look at the frame in the match.

Defending conference-champion Wartburg (7-0-1, 1-0 IIAC) remained undefeated, led by the play of Wendt. Her first goal came in the 20th minute, while her second came exactly four minutes later at the 23:55 mark. Lauren Thomas assisted on both goals.

Megan Petersen (Fr., Indianola, Iowa) made six saves for the Storm, with Christina Ernst making one save for the Knights.

Simpson heads back to the friendly confines of Buxton Stadium for its next contest, an Oct. 3 meeting with Buena Vista at 1 p.m. Simpson was originally scheduled to go to Grinnell on Sept. 30, but the match was cancelled due to scheduling conflicts.
