Simpson wrestling hosts pair of ranked teams this Saturday

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Simpson College wrestling hosts two ranked teams this Saturday for a pair of American Rivers Conference matches. The Storm take on No. 2 Wartburg at 5:30 p.m. and follow against No. 14 Coe at 7 p.m. inside Cowles Fieldhouse.

The Knights (1-1, 1-0 A-R-C) and Kohawks (0-0, 0-0 A-R-C) will jumpstart the triangular in a bout at 4 p.m.

SIMPSON ATTENDANCE POLICY
At this time, the general public, faculty, staff and students will not be allowed to attend home contests inside Cowles Fieldhouse. Student-athletes and coaches from both teams will be permitted two spectators that can attend.

ABOUT THE KNIGHTS
Wartburg comes into the triangular ranked No. 2 in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) poll ... the Knights have a record of 1-1 after a season-opening loss to NCAA Division I Iowa State and a victory against Dubuque ... Wartburg currently has six wrestlers ranked in the top 10 in the country: Kris Rumph (141), Kyle Briggs (174) and Jordon Brandon (285) are all tabbed second, while Brady Kyner (125), Brady Fritz (149) and Kobe Woods (197) are 10th.

ABOUT THE KOHAWKS
Coe wrestles for the first time this weekend after its original season opener was postponed last Saturday ... the Kohawks are tabbed No. 14 in the NWCA poll after finishing the 2019-20 campaign with a 10-2 record ... Coe has four grapplers ranked in the top 10: Riley Wright (141) is fourth, Brock Henderson (133) is fifth, and Luke Silva (165) and Kaleb Reeves (285) are both 10th.

LAST TIME OUT
The Storm split their season-opening triangular last weekend with a victory over Nebraska Wesleyan and a defeat to Buena Vista ... Simpson was close to going perfect on the day, but the Beavers prevailed, 22-19, in the first dual before the Storm rebounded with a 29-21 win over the Prairie Wolves ... junior Dylan McChesney, along with sophomores Dalton Cockman and Colton Kinnison all won their matches to lead the Storm ... McChesney earned the quickest pin of the day for the squad in a 1:15 fall ... Cockman and Kinnison both produced pins, while Kinnison added a major decision to his stats.

League action resumes for the Storm on Saturday, Feb. 6 at the Loras Triangular taking on Dubuque and the Duhawks.
