Peters attends NWCA CEO Leadership Academy

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Simpson head wrestling coach Dylan Peters earned a full scholarship to attend the 2020 Summer CEO Leadership Academy in Edwardsville, Illinois, hosted by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) from Aug. 3-5.

"The leadership academy was a great experience," said Peters. "I was able to gain valuable knowledge to help improve the Simpson wrestling program on and off the mat. I am really excited to start implementing the new ideas and strategies that I learned from the leadership academy into our program."

All coaches who apply for the scholarship program must go through an extensive review process by a selection committee. Only the "best of the best" coaches are awarded full scholarships. The objective of the leadership academy is to teach coaches how to run their college programs like a CEO, which will allow coaches to be better recruiters, fundraisers, coaches, husbands and contributors to the community.

Prior to arriving in Edwardsville, Peters had to complete a 10-part online course to prepare for the in-person discussions. While at the leadership academy, Peters was able to sit one-on-one with former Wartburg head coach, Jim Miller, as well as learn from Maryville head coach Mike Denney. Between Miller and Denney, the duo have 73 years of head coaching experience to go along with 14 national championships.

"Having Jim Miller and Mike Denney in my group allowed me to grow as a person, as well as a coach," Peters said. "I strongly encourage all coaches to get involved with this program. Completing the course throughout the summer and networking with my peers was an invaluable experience that I am extremely thankful for."

As a matter of background, the NWCA has invested over $1,000,000 into the development and implementation of a comprehensive CEO leadership development program designed to help college coaches sharpen their CEO skills and/or to promote "best practices" for improving academic performance.
