Joe Skow returns to Simpson wrestling staff

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Joe Skow returns to campus to begin his second stint on the Simpson College wrestling staff, head coach Dylan Peters announced. Skow served as a graduate assistant before transitioning to an assistant coach between 2014-17.

"I'm excited to have Joe join our staff once again," Peters said. "I look forward to seeing the progression of our upper weights under his guidance. He has already made a significant impact on our program and with him serving in a larger capacity now, will really help us."

A former NCAA Division I wrestler at South Dakota State University and NAIA Sioux Falls, Skow was a two-time National Qualifier competing for Sioux Falls. He won the Great Plains Athletic Conference Championship as a heavyweight in 2010. In his two short seasons with the Cougars, Skow compiled 45 career wins, including a school-record 28 in 2010-11.

Skow transferred to South Dakota State to become a two-year starter, earning All-Western Wrestling Conference Academic First Team honors.

At the high school ranks, the Jackson, Minnesota native tallied 88 varsity victories, including 32 as a senior. He qualified for the Minnesota State Tournament as a senior and helped Jackson County Central capture the 2008 state title.

Skow graduated from SDSU with a degree in sociology and minor in criminal justice in 2013 before earning his master's degree in criminal justice from Simpson in 2016. He recently obtained a bachelor's degree in management information systems from Simpson in 2021. He currently resides in Indianola with his wife, Haylee.
