Simpson women’s golf opens season at Wartburg Invite

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The Simpson women's golf team starts its 2020 fall slate on Saturday with the Wartburg Invitational that spans two days in Waverly, Iowa at the Prairie Links Golf Course.

After a sixth-place performance at the 2019 American Rivers Conference Championships and nearly 11 months since the Storm's last event after the spring season was cancelled, Simpson showcases a new lineup alongside senior Emily Jansen.

Jansen is the lone returner that performed last season as she carded an average of 90.6 in 11 rounds of work. The Tremealeau, Wisconsin native is joined by fellow classmate, Megan Crockett. Crockett is no stranger to the Storm women's golf program as she competed as a sophomore on the squad, but took last year off to focus on softball.

Seventh-year head coach Larry Shoop added three newcomers to the team, junior Averi Peck, and freshmen Hannah Mulligan and Sydney Stephenson. Peck planned to make her debut this spring for the Storm, but was pushed back with the spring seasons being halted. Mulligan is from Shenandoah, Iowa and Stephenson comes to campus from Marion, Iowa.

Simpson won two events last year, the Simpson Invitational and Graceland Invitational to go along with a top-five performance at the Buena Vista Invitational.

After the season-opening weekend, Simpson competes in a single-day event in Lamoni, Iowa for the Graceland Invitational on Sept. 26. The Storm take part in the Buena Vista Invitational on Sept. 26 before hosting their own invitational on Sept. 30 at the Indianola Country Club.

The DMACC Invitational on Oct. 5 at Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny, Iowa sets up Simpson for the A-R-C Championships from Oct. 10-12 at the Ames Country Club to close out the year.
