Schutjer, Hamilton earn All-IIAC honors

CEDAR RAPIDS - Stacey Schutjer earned First Team All-Iowa Conference honors for the second straight year and Amy Hamilton landed on the second team for the third time, the conference office announced Wednesday, March 2.

Schutjer, a junior center from Titonka, Iowa, leads the Storm in scoring (12.9 ppg) and rebounding (6.3 rpg) and her 59 blocked shots rank third in the Iowa Conference. She leads the league in field goal percentage, shooting at a 58.1 percent clip on the year. Schutjer ranks fifth in the IIAC in scoring and sixth in rebounding.

The sports administration major earned Iowa Conference Player of the Week honors twice during the year, on Jan. 23 and Feb. 20. She was named to the all-tournament teams at both the Northwestern Tip Off Tournament and the Buena Vista Classic and scored a season-high 23 points in a 78-77 win at Buena Vista on Jan. 17.  She has two double-doubles and swatted a career-best seven blocks against UW-River Falls on Nov. 19.

Hamilton, a senior guard from Ames, Iowa, becomes one of only 41 players in Iowa Conference history to earn all-conference honors three times. She is second on the team in scoring (9.9 ppg) and leads the way with 67 3-pointers, tops in the IIAC. She is shooting 40.6 percent from beyond the arc, good for second in the league.

On Feb. 24, Hamilton became the 13th player in program history to surpass the 1,000-point plateau. Two days later, Hamilton made career 3-pointer No. 237, becoming Simpson's all-time leader in the category.

The Storm closed the regular season 21-6, earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship. The team's seventh straight trip to the national tournament, Simpson travels to Stevens Point, Wis. where it will face Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champion, Concordia-Moorhead (21-6) in the first round on Friday, March 4 at 5 p.m. The winner of the Simpson/Concordia game will face the winner of Friday's late game between host UW-Stevens Point and St. Norbert.
