
Schutjer named Iowa Conference Athlete of the Week
INDIANOLA - Stacey Schutjer averaged 15.3 points and 8.3 rebounds last week, earning Iowa Conference Athlete of the Week honors for the period ending Jan. 23.
Schutjer, a junior center from Titonka, Iowa, earned women's basketball player of the week honors for the first time this season and the third time in her career. The Storm went 3-0 during the week, extending their winning streak to 14 games.
The sports administration major scored 23 points on 10 of 16 shooting in a 78-77 victory at Buena Vista on Jan. 17, then posted a 14-point, 12-rebound double-double (her second of the season) in a 64-55 win over Wartburg on Jan. 19. Schutjer closed out the week with nine points in only 17 minutes as Simpson routed Luther, 118-58, on Jan. 22.
During the week, she shot 55.6 percent (20-of-36) from the field and had six blocks - four alone against Wartburg.
Schutjer leads the Storm and ranks sixth in the conference in scoring, averaging 12.6 per game. Her 56.7 percent shooting from the field is tops in the league and her 40 blocks rank second.
The Storm (15-3, 9-0 IIAC) make two trips to Dubuque this week, facing Loras on Wednesday, Jan. 26 and Dubuque on Saturday, Jan. 29. Wednesday's game tips off at 6 p.m. and Saturday's gets underway at 2 p.m.
