Simpson women stay hot with road win at Dubuque

DUBUQUE - Ali Sokol led four Simpson players in double figures as the Storm beat Dubuque 81-64 on Saturday afternoon in Dubuque.

Sokol was one rebound shy of a double-double, finishing with 15 points and nine boards, leading the Storm (17-3, 11-0 IIAC) to their 16th-consecutive win.

Simpson clinched a spot in the conference tournament with the win.

Jamie Elbert scored a career-high 13, Jeni Hegstrom had 12 and Cathy Kain added 11, connecting on 9 of 10 free throws.

After a close call against Loras on Wednesday, the Storm opened up a 10-point lead at halftime and never let Dubuque into the game. Simpson led by as much as 17 to complete the season sweep of the Spartans (7-12, 4-6 IIAC).

Mollie Whiting had a game-high 21 points and pulled down seven rebounds for Dubuque. 

The Storm look to continue their blistering pace when they host Coe at Cowles Fieldhouse on Saturday, Feb. 5. Simpson won the first matchup with the Kohawks (17-2, 9-1 IIAC), a 78-63 win in Cedar Rapids. Tipoff is set for 2 pm.
