Simpson breaks scoring record against Crown

INDIANOLA - Morgan Terpstra's layup late in the second half gave Simpson 121 points, breaking the program record for points in a game as the Storm beat Crown, 130-40 on Friday night at Cowles Fieldhouse.

Terpstra scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds coming off the bench for the Storm (6-3), who won their fifth game in a row.

In addition to scoring the most points in a game in program history, Simpson set the record for most 3-pointers in a game (14) and tied the mark for field goals made (51).

The original points record came on Feb. 7, 2008 when Simpson beat Central 120-41 in Indianola.

The 90-point victory also set the mark for the program's widest margin of victory, topping a 107-27 win at Cornell in 2005.

Judy Mundt scored a team-high 16 points for Crown (0-5), going 4-for-10 from beyond the 3-point line.

In all, six players reached double figures for the Storm. Alicia Goetz led the team with 18 points, Ali Sokol scored 15, Tess Myer had 13, Jamie Elbert added 12 and Mindy Hutchcroft chipped in with 10.

Hutchcroft was the only Simpson starter in double figures, as the bench cut loose for 99 points.

Amy Hamilton, Myer and Goetz all hit three 3s, contributing to the record-setting night beyond the arc. Sokol and Elbert hit two and Cathy Kain added one.

The Storm have next week off for finals before Bethel visits Cowles Fieldhouse on Saturday, Dec. 18 at 2 p.m.

Notes: Simpson also set records for field goals attempted (103) and 3-pointers attempted (36).
