Storm trio earns all-region honors, team finishes in regional top 10

NEW ORLEANS - A trio of athletes from the Simpson men's track and field team were named USTFCCCA All-Region in four separate events, also coming in at No. 10 as a team in the midwest region, as announced on Friday.

The top five individuals in each event in each region earned a spot on the all-region teams, with only USTFCCCA member programs eligible for awards. Spencer Moon (5,000 and 10,000 meters), Carter Berkey (long jump), and Max Cleveland (100 meter hurdles) all were tabbed all-region. Additionally, the Storm finished in 10th in the final edition of the USTFCCCA Midwest Regional Rankings, earning 212.78 total points.

Moon continues on a path to become one of the most accomplished Simpson runners of all-time. The junior now has 12 career all-region track and field honors after ranking third in the midwest region in both the 5,000 and 10,000 meters. Moon contributed a total of 75.09 points to the Storm's overall point total as well and will compete in each event at the national championships.

After a clutch career-best to qualify for the national meet in the 110 meter hurdles, Max Cleveland earned his third career all-conference award. Cleveland was named all-region in the distance medley relay and the indoor 100 meter hurdles before. Cleveland's time of 14.43 ranks third in the region, earning 29.31 points for the Storm.

Carter Berkey earned the second all-region honor of his career in the long jump, the first coming in the indoor version in the winter. Berkey is ranked fourth in the long jump in the region, with his mark of 7.24 meters also ranking second in school history. Berkey's mark earned a further 26.70 points for the Storm, with the trio accounting for 131.1 of the Storm's 212.78 total points.

The three athletes will conclude the 2022-23 season by competing at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Polisseni Track and Field Complex in Rochester, N.Y. The meet will span three days and begin next Thursday.
