Moon adds A-R-C Athlete of the Week award
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Fresh off being named the American Rivers Conference Indoor Track MVP at the A-R-C Indoor Championships, Spencer Moon of the Simpson men's track and field team was selected as the A-R-C Athlete of the Week for men's track.
Each athlete that won an MVP in each of the four categories of men and women's track and field after the conclusion of the A-R-C Indoor Championships this past weekend earned the conference recognition for Athlete of the Week.
Moon added to his illustrious Storm career with his first two career conference indoor titles, winning the 3000 and 5000 meter runs. The two titles also give him five career indoor all-conference accolades. Moon also holds indoor school records in the mile, 3000 meters, and 5000 meters, as well as being a part of the distance medley relay team that holds that event's school record.
Moon started his meet with the 5000 meter run. In a more tactical race, Moon broke away from a large pack of runners around two miles in, crossing the finish line in a time of 14:52.62. Moon followed that up the next day in the 3000 meters, comfortably pulling ahead of the field around halfway through to win by over 10 seconds. His time of 8:19.11 broke the previous facility record at host Buena Vista that had stood since 2016. Moon became the fourth men's track or field athlete to earn the conference indoor MVP award, after Dylan Kalinay in 2018 and Joe Farrand in 2013 also earned conference indoor track MVP's. Isaac Frazier was also named the men's indoor field MVP in 2016.
