Imamovic, Russell tabbed academic all-district

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Alan Imamovic and Andrew Russell of Simpson College men's soccer team were tabbed Academic All-District by the College Sports Communicators.

The academic all-district honor is the first for both Imamovic and Russell. They become the 13th and 14th players to earn the award under head coach Rick Isaacson's leadership.

The College Sports Communicators, formerly known as College of Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA), recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. To qualify, all nominees must be a sophomore in academic standing, a starter or key reserve, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher. The full team can be viewed by clicking here

Imamovic is majoring in health and exercise science and started 18 of 19 matches this year. He led the team with seven assists and added two goals to rank fourth on the squad with 11 points. His efforts led to being named All-American Rivers Conference Honorable Mention.

A political science major, Russell started all 19 games for the Storm. He recorded three assists and one goal throughout his second season at Simpson, with his best performance coming in the first round of the A-R-C Tournament when he registered both a goal and an assist.

Both Imamovic and Russell will be placed on the Academic All-America ballot with first-, second- and third-team honorees slated to be announced in early December.
