Ordaz hat trick earns Storm vital conference win

INDIANOLA, Iowa - Ronaldo Ordaz scored Simpson men's soccer team first hat trick of the year, propelling the squad to a 4-0 win over Dubuque in the regular season finale, Saturday, at Buxton Stadium.

Ordaz got the scoring going early for the Storm (11-3-3, 4-1-3 A-R-C). Mateaus Lewis pressed Dubuque goalkeeper Matt Marchiori, deflecting his attempted clearance. Ordaz took the ball out of the air brilliantly and fired a shot into the bottom right corner, with the Dubuque keeper out of position. The goal put Simpson up 1-0 in the fourth minute.

Alan Imamovic nearly doubled the Storm lead in the 16th minute, but his 1v1 situation was this time played a lot better and saved by Marchiori. The Spartans (7-6-4, 2-2-3 A-R-C) did not offer much going forward, gaining a lot of possession, but most of it was in their own third. Baraka Ellie made the Spartans pay in the 31st minute. Roderick Orellana-Lemus played a defense-splitting pass, which Ellie received and finished to give the Storm a 2-0 advantage going into halftime.

Matt Hasken had a great chance early in the second half, which was marked by multiple stoppages and injuries. Hasken's close range strike hit the side netting, but it was a warning sign for the Spartans.

Gradually, the Spartans were forced to commit more players to the attack and that left spaces that Ordaz and the Storm punished. Just under five minutes to go, Ordaz picked up another deflected ball, skipping past his defender in the box and netting the Storm's third goal of the afternoon.

Ordaz sealed his hattrick after some more great work from Orellana-Lemus. Orellana-Lemus picked up the ball and beat one defender, before squaring the ball to Ordaz for an easy finish, completing the 4-0 victory.
