Storm place six on all-conference teams

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Simpson men's soccer team saw six of its student-athletes be named to All-American Rivers Conference teams, as announced by the league office on Wednesday.

The six selections make this the fourth time in the last six seasons the Storm have had at least six all-conference selections.

Baraka Ellie, Ricardo Ibarra, and Ronaldo Ordaz were named all-conference, while Alan Imamovic, Mateaus Lewis, and Roderick Orellana-Lemus received honorable mention awards.

Ellie, a fifth-year senior midfielder from Des Moines, Iowa, picks up his fourth career all-conference honor. Ellie was the team's leading scorer with 10 goals, starting all 19 matches for the Storm. Ellie added three assists to finish with a team-leading 23 points. Ellie ends his Storm career ranking second in career assists as well.

Ibarra, also a fifth-year senior, picks up his second career all-conference honor after being named to the honorable mention team in 2020. Ibarra was a mainstay on the Storm backline to start the season, before moving slightly forward in a defensive midfield role. The added flexibility in the attack led to three goals on the season, also winning A-R-C Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in his career.

Ordaz enjoyed a breakout season in his junior year, tying for second on the team with six goals, also chipping in with four assists to rank second on the team with 16 points. Ordaz scored the lone hattrick of the season for the Storm in the 4-0 season finale against Dubuque, earning him A-R-C Offensive Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career.

Imamovic earns his second all-conference honor after making the First Team last season. Imamovic was the leading provider for the Storm, dishing out seven assists and also adding two goals. Imamovic's flexibility to play as a defender and as a box-to-box midfielders provided the start for countless counter-attack opportunities for the Storm.

Lewis was one of the vital pieces for the Storm attack in his third season with the club. Lewis tied for second in goals on the team with six and also recorded three assists. After a week where he scored three goals and added two assists, Lewis was named A-R-C Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career.

Orellana-Lemus was also a large piece of the Storm's success, able to play in the midfield or in the center of defense. Orellana-Lemus started all 19 games for the Storm, scoring two goals and adding three assists. Orellana-Lemus recorded a point in the final three of four games for the Storm, including scoring in the 4-1 win over Dubuque in the A-R-C Tournament Quarterfinals.
