Men’s soccer stays perfect with 2-1 win

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Jack Lammers scored the go-ahead goal in the 74th minute and the Simpson College men's soccer team stayed perfect on the season with a big 2-1 win over Carleton.

Simpson (4-0-0) took a 1-0 lead 20 minutes into the match as Roderick Orellana-Lemus's free kick from over 40 yards out found the head of Ronaldo Ordaz-Zambrano who leaped into the air and sent the ball to the far post.

The defending Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Champions knotted the game at 1-1 shortly before the break and nearly took the lead in the 72nd minute, but a couple of crucial saves by second-half goalie Nate Hersom kept the tie intact. The freshman dived to save a shot from Carleton's Ben Pennell before showing off his quick reflexes with a leaping save seconds later on Sam Isaacman's follow-up header.

The Storm went down the field two minutes later and claimed the lead for themselves off the foot of Lammers who scored off a service from freshman Tyler Hannon. Lammers became the eighth player to tally a goal for Simpson in its first four games, while Hannon was the fifth to provide an assist.
