Men's soccer enters regional rankings at No. 7

INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Simpson College men's soccer came in at No. 7 in the first United Soccer Coaches Region IX Ranking of the season, as announced by the organization on Tuesday.

The Storm are currently 4-1-0 on the season with two highlight wins over teams that appeared in the NCAA Tournament a year ago. Simpson defeated the 2021 Midwest Conference Champions, Knox, by a score of 2-1 as well as Carleton, last season's Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Champions, 2-1.

Gustavus Adolphus is ranked first in Region IX with a 3-0-2 overall record. The next three spots in the poll were claimed by a trio of American Rivers Conference schools including Wartburg (3-0-2), Loras (3-1-0) and Luther (4-0-1), respectively. Saint John's (3-0-1) was selected sixth and Wis.-Eau Claire (5-0-0) and Augsburg (3-0-1) surrounded Simpson in the sixth and eighth positions.

This is the first time since 2019 the Storm have been ranked regionally. There were no polls released in 2020 due to the pandemic.

Simpson returns to the pitch on Sept. 16 against Wis.-Platteville. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. at Buxton Stadium.
