Storm unbeaten streak halted by Loras

INDIANOLA, Iowa - Simpson men's soccer team saw their six-game unbeaten streak come to an end after Loras scored three second-half goals to fell the Storm, 3-1, Saturday, at Buxton Stadium.

The game began slow from an offensive standpoint. While the intensity was fierce, the two squads took a while to control the midfield and gain the upper hand.

The first real chance of the game, however, was dispatched by the Storm (9-3-1, 2-1-1 A-R-C). Danny Haisch played a pinpoint cross field pass to Baraka Ellie. Ellie cut inside and found Alan Imamovic, who turned with the ball effortlessly, passing to the free man on the right side, Matt Hasken. Hasken let the ball run across his body before smashing a one-time effort high into the top left corner. The description does not do it justice, but the brilliant goal from Hasken gave the Storm the lead.

However, not even a minute later, the Duhawks (6-5, 2-1 A-R-C) earned a penalty kick after a foul in the box. The Duhawks' leading goalscorer, Reed Miklavcic, stepped up to take the PK, but Storm goalkeeper Nate Hersom denied him by expertly saving his kick, before the Storm defense cleared the ball away.

The other large chance fell to the Storm in the 37th minute, with Imamovic playing a lofted pass to Ellie, running down the heart of the Loras defense. Ellie controlled it and got off a shot just inside the center of the box, but it went narrowly wide of the left post.

After halftime, the Loras squad seemed to turn a new light, coming out firing. After missing two great chances in the first eight minutes of the half, the Duhawks equalized after a goal from Jonathan Landa. Landa received a layoff pass before faking his shot and sending a placed shot into the corner.

Not long after, the Duhawks turned the game around, with captain Kevin Kucaba scoring to make it 2-1 Loras, with Felipe Ramirez recording another assist.

Ronaldo Ordaz had the best chance for the Storm to level the match. Ordaz got on the end of a free kick, but his diving header unfortunately went straight at the Loras goalkeeper.

The Duhawks finished the game off less than five minutes from time. After a Storm turnover, Carson Woods took the ball into a 2v1 situation for the Duhawks. He passed the ball to Taylor Sewell, who finished the move off to solidify the result.
