Triana-Vasquez named United Soccer Coaches All-Region
INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The United Soccer Coaches announced its Division III All-Region Teams on Monday and Simpson College men's soccer junior Jordy Triana-Vasquez has been named to the 2021 Region IX Third Team for his performance on the pitch this season.
Triana-Vasquez becomes the 12th men's soccer player in program history to earn all-region honors.
A junior from Clive Iowa, Triana-Vasquez ranked fifth in the American Rivers Conference with 10 goals during the 2021 season. He opened his third campaign with the Storm in dramatic fashion by scoring four goals and assisting another, and continued to be a consistent attacker all year, ranking second in the league with 52 shots and tied for second with 32 shots on goal. Along with his 10 scores, the two-time all-conference honoree added three assists to notch the sixth-most points in the league.
Simpson's 2021 campaign came to a close in the A-R-C semifinals after the Storm earned their highest tournament seeding since 2001 thanks to a 5-2-1 record against league opponents. Fueled by a big road win over Loras and three-straight shutouts to end the conference schedule, the Storm finished the season in the runner-up spot in league standings, two spots ahead of where they were projected to finish in the preseason poll.
