Triana-Vasquez nets four goals in 6-1 triumph

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Junior Jordy Triana-Vasquez nearly equaled his point total from seven games last spring by scoring four goals and assisting on another to lead Simpson College men's soccer to a season-opening 6-1 victory over Augustana on Wednesday.

With the glow from Buxton Stadium's new video scoreboard shining onto the turf, Triana-Vasquez tallied his first goal in the ninth minute to open the scoring lid for the Storm (1-0-0) after he scored five goals in all of 2020-21. The Clive, Iowa native scored the game-winner in the 30th off a pass from classmate Alan Imamovic.

A few moments later, senior Enrique Idehen put the hosts up 3-0 with a netter. In the 54th minute, junior Andrew Russell earned his first goal in a Simpson uniform coming off a pass from Triana-Vasquez in front of the net.

The Vikings (0-1-0) broke the drought with a 61st-minute goal from the foot of Sebastian Gabrielson.

Triana-Vasquez collected two goals in the final 20 minutes for the Storm, including a penalty kick that soared past Augustana's keeper.

Freshman William Kopp earned the win for Simpson in his first career start. The squad's defense held firm all contest by allowing just one shot on-goal.
