Cornell collects overtime win over Simpson

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- In its second match in three days, the Simpson College men's soccer team dropped an overtime contest to Cornell on Monday, 2-1.

Junior Jordy Triana-Vasquez opened the scoring lid in the 40th minute for the Storm (2-3-0). Triana-Vasquez fired a strike from 25-yards out off a pass from sophomore Louie Hoehle for his American Rivers Conference-leading sixth goal of the season.

The Rams (4-1-0) knotted the game at 1-1 in the 79th minute in hopes of stretching their current winning streak to four. In the extra stanza, George Archer connected on his third goal of the season for the games-winner.

Both squads were nearly identical in shots, with Simpson holding a slight 21-18 tilt. Eleven of those attempts were on frame for the Storm. Sophomore Ronaldo Ordaz Zambrano paced the offense with six shots, Triana-Vasquez had five and senior Ian Dean ended with four.

Reigning Midwest Conference Defensive Performer of the Week, freshman Will Bickel, tallied 10 saves in the contest to push his record to 4-1-0. Freshman William Kopp ended with four saves in 93 minutes of action for Simpson.
