Coe steals 1-0 win against Storm
INDIANOLA - Tom Wakeland's goal in the 51st minute proved the difference for Coe on Wednesday, which notched a 1-0 win against Simpson at Buxton Stadium.
Wakeland took advantage of a one-on-one opportunity with goalkeeper Luke Aronow (Ankeny, Iowa), striking the game-winner into the left net at the 50:26 mark. Jacob Johnson started the counter, slotting the lead pass to Wakeland as the Kohawks (7-5-1, 2-2 IIAC) picked up only their secod win all-time against Simpson.
"Out of the last few weeks, tonight was the best all-around game we've played," head coach Mike Wilson said. "We kept our shape and made it difficult for them to play through us. We had our opportunities, but their keeper made plays when he needed to."
The Storm (5-8, 2-2 IIAC) outshot Coe 10-6 and held a 3-2 edge in shots on goal. Kohawk goalkeeper Grady Brown made three saves, including stopping a rocket from Bryan Michelsen (Newton, Iowa) late in the second half.
Aronow made one save for the Storm, which takes on Luther in a 2 p.m. kickoff Saturday at Buxton Stadium.
