Wiederholt named IIAC Swimmer of the Week

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Cheyenne Wiederholt became the latest member of the Simpson women's swimming team to earn Iowa Conference Performer of the Week honors following a pair of individual wins against Iowa Lakes CC, the conference office announced Monday.

IIAC Performers of the Week

Wiederholt won three events in all, touching the wall first in the 100 butterfly, 200 IM and helping the 200 freestyle relay to a first-place finish. Simpson (7-3) beat Iowa Lakes 151-37, closing the dual portion of the schedule with a school-record seven wins.

Normally a backstroker, Wiederholt swam the second-fastest time in school history in the 100 butterfly, finishing in 1:04.85 in her first time swimming the event this season. She swam a season-best 2:27.90 in the 200 IM and helped the 200 freestyle relay finish in 1:52.40.

Wiederholt is the third Storm swimmer -- all freshmen -- to win IIAC Performer of the Week honors in 2016-17. Maren Hoferitza-Palermo won on Oct. 16 and Brenna Yeutsy won back-to-back weeks on Nov. 13 and Nov. 20.

The Storm close the regular season at the Grinnell Invitational this weekend, Jan. 20-21.
