Hoferitza-Palermo named IIAC Swimmer of the Week
INDIANOLA, Iowa — Simpson women's swimmer Maren Hoferitza-Palermo earned Iowa Conference Performer of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday, Oct. 16, the league office announced earlier this week.
In her first collegiate competition, Hoferitza-Palermo won the 200 butterfly and the 200 backstroke in the Nebraska Wesleyan and St. Mary (Neb.) double-dual, swimming two of the fastest times in school history in the process. She also took second place in the 200 IM and helped the 200 medley relay to a second-place finish as the Storm beat Nebraska Wesleyan 149-87 and St. Mary 177-68.
A freshman from Pleasant Prairie, Wis., Hoferitza-Palermo swam the 200 butterfly in 2:31.45, the No. 3 time in school history. She swam the 200 backstroke in 2:25.05, the No. 4 time in school history.
The last time a Simpson women's swimmer won the weekly accolade was in January of 2014.
