Women's swimming reshapes record books in fourth place finish

GRINNELL, Iowa — The Storm women broke two records and had several career best finishes in the fourth place finish at the Pioneer Classic on Saturday.

Simpson finished with 457 points, and Grinnell won the meet with 1466.5 points.

The 800 freestyle relay team of Brenna Yeutsy, Alex Vander Veen, Maren Hoferitza-Palermo, and Cheyenne Wiederholt finished in fourth place with a time of 8:41.67, breaking the school record. The old record was set in the 2004-05 season in 8:44.15.

Kayla Cary finished sixth in the 100 butterfly to break the school record with a time of 1:04.75. Cary also placed sixth in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:27.98, which is third-best in school history.

Cheyenne Wiederholt finished fourth in the 100 backstroke for a career-best time of 1:05.61. Maren Hoferitza-Palermo also finished sixth with a time of 1:06.34, which is the fifth-best time in school history. Wiederholt placed seventh in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:23.94, the third-best in school history.

Haley Blum placed seventh in the 100 IM, with a career-best time of 1:08.02. Ane Skartvedt finished 14th with a time of 1:11.05, marking the third-best time in school history.

The Storm have a break before they return in the new year to host Iowa Lakes Community College on Saturday, Jan. 14th. The dual is set for 1 p.m.
