Women’s swimming dominates in win over Tabor

INDIANOLA, Iowa — The Simpson women's swimming team put together a dominating performance Friday, winning nine events en-route to a 111-68 win over Tabor.

Brenna Yeutsy beat her own school record in the 500 freestyle while Haley Blum and Maren Hoferitza-Palermo each took home three wins to help the Storm improve to 4-2 on the year.

"We had some really good swims and at least one school record tonight," head coach Tom Caccia said. "[We swam] good races, I'm really happy with it."

A freshman, Yeutsy swam the 500 freestyle in 5:34.73, two seconds faster than her record-setting time last Friday against Coe. She also won the 50 freestyle in 26.49 and led the winning 400 freestyle relay team.

"We've been working on where we should be during practices and our practices over the week have been trying to keep [Yeutsy] at a certain spot in her 50s," Caccia said. "Watching her tonight, I could see all of the stuff we've been working on came through."

A senior captain, Blum won 200 breaststroke in 2:42.07 while helping both relays to first-place finishes. She anchored the 400 freestyle relay with Yeutsy, Cassie Bergman, and Maren Hoferitza-Palermo (3:58.24) and swam the second leg on the 400 medley relay, joining Cheyenne Wiederholt, Kayla Cary and Ane Skartvedt (4:29.05).

Hoferitza-Palermo added two individual wins in the 200 butterfly (2:26.53) and the 200 IM (2:24.67). The first Iowa Conference Swimmer of the Week swam personal bests in both events, turning in the second-fastest time in school history in the butterfly and the fourth-fastest in the individual medley.

Megan Buitendorp swam 2:26.85 to win the 200 backstroke and Wiederholt won the 200 freestyle in 2:09.86.
