Women's swimming finishes 10th at Grinnell Invitational

GRINNELL, Iowa — The Storm women finished in tenth at the two-day Grinnell Invitational Friday and Saturday. Simpson had 189.5 points.

University of Nebraska-Omaha won the meet with 1692 points.

"We had a good meet," head coach Tom Caccia said. "Obviously, we want to go faster, but we raced very well and I'm pleased with our progress."

Kayla Cary broke her own school record in the 100 butterfly with a 17th-place time of 1:04.53. Cary finished in 14th in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:29.87.

Cassie Bergman finished the 100 individual medley in 1:09.00 for the second-best time in school history. Maren Hoferitza-Palermo finished the 400 individual medley in 5:23.05 for a 14th-place finish.

The 800 freestyle relay team of Brenna Yeutsy, Bergman, Alex Vander Veen and Cheyenne Wiederholt finished fourth with a time of 8:48.10, which is third-best in school history.

Yeutsy finished 22nd in the 100 freestyle in 58.30, 15th in the 200 freestyle in 2:05.06, and 22nd in the 500 freestyle in 5:40.10.

"We're anxious to get some rest over the next couple weeks as we get ready for our championships," Caccia said.

UP NEXT
The Storm will compete in the last meet of the year, the Liberal Arts Championships. They begin Wednesday, Feb. 8 and continue through Saturday, Feb. 11.
