Storm swimmers break 18 school records at Liberal Arts Championships to finish season

ELSAH, Ill. — Over the three days at the Liberal Arts Championships, the Simpson men's and women's swimming teams combined for 18 broken school records. The men finished in ninth place with 132 points and the women finished in eighth place with 191 points.

"I am exceptionally happy with our results," head coach Tom Caccia said. "I think we have taken a major step forward with our programs."

On the final day of the meet, the Storm swimmers broke four records.

Individually, Kayla Cary finished the 200 butterfly in fifth place with a time of 2:19.35. In the prelims, Cary broke the school record by over eight seconds with a time of 2:18.07. Dylan Gray finished 16th in the 100 freestyle with a time of 49.88, but set a new school record in the prelims with a time of 49.06. Tyler Marine finished 12th in the 200 backstroke with a record-setting time of 2:02.74.

In the men's 400 freestyle relay, Gray, Ethan Woodruff, Marine and Cody Carlson finished in ninth with a time of 3:22.98. In the prelims, the four broke the school record with a time of 3:21.96.

Brenna Yeutsy finished sixth in the 100 freestyle with a time of 55.55, Haley Blum finished 12th in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:40.36, and Cheyenne Wiederholt finished 12th in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:20.70.

"Since coming in as freshmen, our seniors have been part of 103 school records," Caccia said. "We owe a lot to them and their commitment to Storm athletics."
