Sander steps down as Simpson women’s soccer coach

INDIANOLA, Iowa – After leading the Simpson women's soccer team for the past five seasons, Ryan Sander has resigned as head coach, Director of Athletics Brian Niemuth announced Friday.

Sander came to Simpson in 2010, helping his teams qualify for the Iowa Conference Tournament four times during the five-year span, advancing to the semifinals in 2011. The 2011 season was Sander's best, as the Storm won their last four regular season games to finish 13-6-2 overall and tie for third in the league.

"I want to thank Simpson College for the opportunities, experiences, memories, and friendships that will be treasured forever," Sander said.

A national search for Sander's replacement will begin immediately.

"I appreciate Ryan's service to the women's soccer program and to Simpson," Niemuth said. "His contributions to Simpson extend well beyond soccer and we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors."

Simpson players earned 16 all-Iowa Conference accolades during his career, including five first team performers. For their work in the classroom, 33 players were named to the Academic all-Iowa Conference team.
