Johnson, Petersen named IIAC Players of the Week

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Simpson women's soccer players Amber Johnson and Megan Petersen earned Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively, for the period ending Sunday, Sept. 23, the league office announced late Monday.

A sophomore forward from Grinnell, Iowa, Johnson scored Simpson's only goals of the week as the Storm posted 1-0 shutouts over Culver-Stockton on Sept. 20 and Coe in overtime on Sept. 22. Johnson's goal against the Kohawks marked the fourth straight game in which she's found the back of the net.

A senior goalkeeper from Indianola, Iowa, Petersen posted back-to-back shutouts for the Storm. She finished the week with eight saves – three against Culver-Stockton and five against Coe - upping her shutout total to five for the year. She has 17 career shutouts, the second most in program history.

The Storm (7-2, 1-0 Iowa Conference) are in the midst of a five-game winning streak.

Next up for Simpson is a non-conference contest at Grand View on Tuesday, Oct. 2. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
