Early goal sinks Storm

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Millikin snuck in an early goal and the Simpson women's soccer team failed to get on the board in a 1-0 loss on Saturday evening.

Chelsea Smalley took a feed from Ashley Livingood in the eighth minute for the Big Blue (2-2-1), who managed only six shots against the Simpson defense.

"We played better in the second half, but I was disappointed in our intensity level in the first," head coach Ryan Sander said.

The Storm (2-2) took eight shots on the night but couldn't capitalize.

"The one chance they got they scored on," Sander said. "We had our fair share of chances, we just couldn't get a goal when we had to."

The goal allowed by Simpson was the first in three games, as the Storm shut out their last two opponents, a 1-0 win over Bethel and a 1-0 win over Grinnell.

Simpson did put five shots on goal, getting two from Madison Densmore.

Megan Petersen made two saves between the posts and Millikin's Natalie Robertaccio made five in the shutout.

Simpson returns to action Wednesday, Sept. 12 when it hosts Nebraska Wesleyan at Buxton Stadium. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
