Simpson women take third in final event of the season

OSKALOOSA, Iowa - Paced by freshman Kaylin Long once again, the Simpson College women's golf team wrapped up its 2023-24 campaign with a third-place finish at the Statesmen Spring Classic.

The Storm took third in the two-day, 27 hole tournament with a score of 523. The tournament was shortened from 36 holes to 27 holes due to the inclement weather in the area this afternoon. Taylor Elam led the team after day one and Kaylin Long was the team's overall leader after tying for sixth.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Long's finish means she has now been the team's top finisher in six of the 10 events she has competed at this season.
  • Long earned her third top 10 finish of the season and the best individual placing of her freshman season.
  • Elam also earned her third top 10 finish of the season after shooting the team's best 18-hole round on day one with an 82.
  • Miranda Deppe was one shot behind Elam over the 27 holes, carding a first round score of 88 to tie for 11th.
