Long paces Storm in season-opening event

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Freshman Kaylin Long led the Simpson College women's golf team to a seventh place finish out of 12 teams at the Kohawk Classic, hosted by fellow American Rivers Conference member Coe College.

The Storm sent two teams to the event, with the Simpson Red team finishing in seventh, ahead of A-R-C members Luther and Loras. The Simpson Gold team finished in 11th, finishing above Loras. Each team shot better on day two, with the Red team improving three shots, while the Gold team bettered its day one mark by 15 strokes.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Long recorded a top 15 finish for Simpson Red, with a two-day total of 164 to lead the Storm. '
• The freshman from Washington, Iowa recorded the two best rounds of any Storm golfer on the weekend, with rounds of 83 and 81.
• Fellow freshman Kaia Masten, playing for Simpson Gold, was the second overall Storm golfer, carding rounds of 86 and 85 for a two-day total of 171.
• Kristen Roe shot her best career round at Simpson, carding an 85 on day two.
