Storm place sixth at A-R-C Championship

AMES, Iowa - The Simpson College women's golf team placed sixth at the American Rivers Conference Championship, with freshman Kaylin Long recording a top 20 individual finish.

The Storm put together a largely successful three days, led by their day two total of 336, the team's best score at the conference championship since the second round at the 2018 event. The Storm's sixth place finish was its best since 2019, and the team's total of 1034 was its best overall score since 2018 as well.

Freshman Kaylin Long fired a two-day total of 251 to take 18th place. The Storm have now had at least one golfer place in the top 20 individually at every conference tournament since the 2015 event. Long's three-day total was the third-best score since 2017, behind only Hannah Gordon and teammate Madeline Streicher last season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Long fired an 82 on day one to put Simpson in a tie for fifth.
• Miranda Deppe, who finished in 22nd, carded an 84 in round one to tie her career-best. Deppe then bested that mark with an 83 in round two.
• Taylor Elam shot an 81 on day two of the tourney, recording Simpson's lowest round.
• Elam, Long, and Deppe were all under 85 on day two, leading Simpson to a score of 336, its best since the second round in 2018.
• Elam improved by five shots from last season's conference tournament.
• The Storm bounced around from fifth to seventh on the final day, even flirting with passing Wartburg for fourth, but took sixth place with a final round 355.
• Overall, the Storm improved by 56 shots compared to last year's performance.
