Track and field squads, five individuals claim all-academic status

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Simpson College men's and women's track and field teams were both recognized by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as All-Academic Teams on Wednesday. In addition, Max Cleveland, Ryan Courtney, Harry Dudley, Spencer Moon and James Murray were named all-academic individuals.

The Storm men achieved a GPA of 3.34 as a unit, while the women's team compiled a 3.47 GPA during the 2021-22 academic year. More than 150 teams on both sides were recognized for having a cumulative GPA greater than 3.1, the qualifying criteria.

To earn USTFCCCA All-Academic individual honors, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and must have at least one of the following athletic standards competed in an NCAA Indoor Championship; finished the regular season ranked in the national top 50 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 35 in a relay event on the official NCAA Descending Order List.

The distance medley relay team of Cleveland, Courtney, Moon and Murray all met the criteria for individual recognition and finished the season ranked 33rd in the nation with a time of 10:08.63.

Cleveland and Moon also met the criteria for individual events in addition to Dudley. Cleveland ranked 24th in the outdoor 110 hurdles (14.48) and 36th in the indoor 60 hurdles, Dudley ranked 43rd in the indoor 5000m (14:47.00), and Moon finished the year inside the top 50 of five events. He ranked 15th in the outdoor 10000m (29:53.79), 18th in the indoor 3000m (8:19.12), 22nd in the indoor 5000m (14:31.64) and 24th in the both the outdoor 1500m (3:47.87) and 5000m (14:18.76).
