Cleveland, Moon earn all-region awards

NEW ORLEANS – Simpson College men's track and field junior Spencer Moon and sophomore Max Cleveland were named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) All-Midwest Region Team on Wednesday.

Moon, who placed 18th in the 10,000 meters at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in May, earned honors in the 1500-, 5000- and 10,000-meter runs. His school record times in the 1500m (3:47.87) and 5000m (14:18.76) ranked fifth and third, respectively, in the region, while his 10,000m time of 29:53.79 was third-best in the region.

Cleveland picked up his first career all-region honor in the 110 hurdles. His fastest time of the season was at Simpson's first home meet when he ran a 14.48 to win the event. He finished the season ranked third in the conference, fourth in the region and 24th in the nation, just .02 seconds shy of a national berth.

The top five individuals in each event from each region were recognized on the all-region team along with each member of the top three relay teams.
