Moon earns USTFCCCA All-Region accolades

NEW ORLEANS – Just days ahead of competing at his first NCAA DIII Indoor Track and Field Championship, Simpson College men's track and field junior Spencer Moon earned U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Midwest Region honors in the 3,000 and 5,000 meters.

Moon posted school-record times in both events this season, resetting his own mark in the 3,000m twice before breaking a 37-year old mark in the 5,000m.

In the 3K, Moon erased over 15 seconds off his previous school record with a time of 8:18.61 at the Larry Wieczorek Invite and then took three more ticks off with a 8:15.14 run at the Bearcat Invite. The Lake City, Iowa product ran the 5K for the first time in his career at the SDSU Indoor Classic and bested Danny Bauer's program record from 1985 (14:25.87) with a time of 14:22.41.

In order to earn all-region honors, a student-athlete must be one of the top-five individuals in their event in their respective region. Moon ranked fourth in the Midwest Region in the 3000m and fifth in the 5000m. He is set to compete for All-American honors in the 3K on Saturday, March 12 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
