Moon ends 13th at NCAA Division III Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- After a weather delay pushed the start time back, Simpson College men's track and field sophomore Spencer Moon ended 13th in the 5,000-meters at the 2021 NCAA Division III Championships on Saturday, hosted at North Carolina A&T State University's Irwin Belk Track.

Moon crossed the finish in 14:49.44 after becoming the first distance runner for the Storm men to clinch a berth to the national meet since 1996. Overall, Simpson last sent competitors to the championships in 2018when Jordan Coughenor and Dylan Kalinay both qualified.

The Lake City, Iowa native came into the event with the 10th-best time in the nation that he set inside Buxton Stadium at the Kip Janvrin Open on April 23.

Earlier in the week, Moon was named U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Central Region in the 1,500 and 5,000-meter races.
