Simpson gears up for Division III Elite Championships

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The Simpson College track and field teams will send student-athletes to compete in the NCAA Division III Elite Indoor Championships starting Friday at Wartburg College.

This event is taking place due to the cancellation of the NCAA Division Winter Championships due to COVID-19.

On the men's side, Carter Berkey (long jump), Clay Billheimer (DMR), Max Cleveland (60m hurdles), Ryan Courtney (mile), Steven Cruz-Castro (DMR), Harry Dudley (5000), Brenden Godbout (pentathlon), Andrew Klein (mile), Spencer Moon (DMR, 3000), James Murray (DMR) and Mason Spree (weight throw, shot put) will all compete. The women will showcase three performers, Audrey Arnold (60m hurdles), Jamie Glanz (pentathlon) and Mackenzie Laughlin (mile).

The Storm recently competed in the American Rivers Conference Indoor Championships last weekend with the men ending seventh and the women collecting eighth. Berkey finished third in the long jump for all-conference honors and the distance medley relay of Billheimer, Cruz-Castro, Moon and Murray broke the school record to tally second place.

Glanz just missed landing on the podium with a fourth-place result in the pentathlon last Saturday. The senior was eight points shy of third place with the help of third place in the shot put. Glanz had a leap of 1.61 meters to finish sixth overall in the long jump. Arnold had a nice showing in her first appearance at the league championships with an eighth-place nod in the 60-meter hurdles. Laughlin collected eighth place last weekend in the mile to grab another top-10 performance for Simpson.

Competition begins Friday at 10 a.m. inside the Hoover Fieldhouse in Waverly, Iowa. Live video and stats will be provided on SimpsonAthletics.com.
