Storm swept by Coe

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Nick Stein hit a home run in each half of the doubleheader and Coe swept the Simpson baseball team, 5-3 and 10-5 on Saturday.

The wins helped the Kohawks (23-10, 17-5 Iowa Conference) take the four-game series, 3-1.

Brett Crable drove in two runs on a single in the second and Ethan Hale had a run-scoring double as the Storm (11-20, 7-15) took a 3-2 lead after two.

AJ Reuter drove in the winning run for Coe in the third on a double to left field.

Matt Pennings (3-4) gave up five runs – all earned – in five innings for Simpson while Drew Arends (7-0) remained undefeated, giving up four hits in the complete-game effort.

Stein's three-run homer in the third inning helped give Coe a 10-1 lead early in the nightcap.

Simpson chipped away at the lead with runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh, but dug too deep of a hole to climb out of in the loss.

Tyler Craig and Bud Smith had two hits apiece for Simpson and Aaron Young (0-5) gave up six runs in 1 1/3.

Stein finished 3-for-5 with four RBIs and Wade Morris (3-0) gave up six hits and three runs – two earned – in five innings.
