Craig leads Simpson to sweep of Iowa Wesleyan

TUCSON, Ariz. – Tyler Craig finished a single shy of the cycle in game one and finished with five RBIs on the day as the Simpson baseball team swept Iowa Wesleyan in a doubleheader on Monday.

The Storm (4-3) accumulated 21 hits in a 15-8 win in game one before holding on for a 6-4 win in the nightcap.

Game 1: Simpson 15, Iowa Wesleyan 8
Craig homered in the third, tripled in the fourth and doubled in the fifth, providing three of Simpson's seven extra-base hits. The Storm trailed 3-0 before Craig's two-run homer sparked a four-run third.

Brett Crable – who finished 4-for-5 – doubled to lead off the fourth and Tyler Crandell and Craig hit back-to-back triples as Simpson went on to score six in the inning for a commanding 10-5 lead.

Kyle Helmerson (1-0) came on in relief of Jake Scieszinski to get the win, allowing two runs and striking out five in two innings. Vincent Cambruzzi gave up 10 runs – four earned – in the loss.

Game 2: Simpson 6, Iowa Wesleyan 4
Craig hit a two-RBI triple as part of a five-run second and tripled and scored in the fifth for the Storm.

Gage Reis (1-0) struck out six and allowed three runs in 5 2/3 innings for the win. Matt Pennings got Simpson out of trouble in the sixth, getting Justin Katich to ground out to third after the Tigers (0-3) scored three to make it 6-4.
