Simpson drops a pair on final day in Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Simpson baseball team dropped the last two games of its Spring Break trip to Arizona on Wednesday.

Simpson lost to Saint Mary's 7-6 in a 12-inning marathon and fell to Concordia-Chicago 4-1.

Kyle Servais hit a walk-off, RBI single in the bottom of the 12th as Saint Mary's scored two in the final at-bat for the win.

Tied 5-5 after 9, the two teams went scoreless in the 10th and 11th. Simpson took the lead in the top fo the 12th when Jake Esdorh scored on a fielder's choice by Brett Crable.

Tyler Crandell went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI and Jake Scieszinski tripled for the Storm (4-4).

Aaron Young gave up four runs – three earned – in six innings. Eric Jones threw five innings of relief and Matt Pennings (1-1) took the loss after entering in the 12th.

Jon Schlemmer went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two doubles and Sean Minder (1-0) tossed the final three innings to get the win for the Cardinals (4-2).

Concordia-Chicago 4, Simpson 1
Kyle Huber's 2-RBI double highlighted a four-run first and Concordia-Chicago held on for a 4-1 win.

Will Randerson and Colin Bethran added run-scoring hits in the first and Kurt Kempema (1-0) allowed four hits in seven innings for the Cougars (4-0).

After a rough first inning, Jose Rodriguez (0-2) settled down, allowing only four hits over the next seven for the Storm (4-5). Tyler Craig drove in Simpson's only run in the seventh when he doubled to score Crandell, who led off the inning with a triple.

Simpson's next contest will take place in Iowa, as the Storm travel to William Penn on Tuesday, March 19. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
