Craig named IIAC Player of the Week

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -  Simpson baseball player Tyler Craig earned Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors after hitting .500 and slugging over 1.000 in the final four games of the team's Spring Break trip to Arizona, the league office announced Tuesday.

A junior first baseman from Urbandale, Iowa, Craig won the award for the period ending Sunday, March 10 after going 8-for-16 at the plate and slugging 1.188 in four games. He had two doubles, three triples and a home run as Simpson went 2-2 to close its trip to Arizona.

In the first game of a doubleheader against Iowa Wesleyan, Craig had three RBIs, scored three runs and came up just a single shy of hitting for the cycle in a 15-8 win. He went 2-for-2 with two triples and two RBIs in the nightcap, a 6-4 win.

Craig and the Storm (4-5) open the Iowa portion of their schedule Tuesday, March 19 at William Penn. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
