Simpson goes 1-3 at Border Brawl Duals

WHITEWATER, Wis. - The Simpson wrestling team went 1-3 at the Border Brawl Duals hosted by UW-Whitewater on Saturday.

The Storm (5-10) beat UW-Eau Claire 24-12 in the second round of the duals, losing to UW-Whitewater (36-3), UW-Stevens Point (36-9) and UW-Oshkosh (32-15).

With the result against Eau Claire, Simpson tied the most dual wins in a season since the 2006-07 season.

Cory Stratton returned from injury to post a team-best 3-1 mark at 165 pounds on the day to lead Simpson.

Simpson won 5 of 8 contended matches against Eau Claire, including Stratton's 3-2 decision. Spencer Courier posted a 10-2 major at 141, Brian Haynes won 6-4 at 157, Justin Bruce won 9-7 at 174 and Jared Bevins won by technical fall at 197. Devin Rausch added a win by forfeit at 133 to help Simpson to the win.

Courier closed the day 2-2, while Bruce and Bevins each went 2-2. Bruce had the Storm's only pin of the day, taking down Langford of UW-Stevens Point in 5:45.

Simpson closes the home schedule Tuesday, Jan. 24 when it hosts Buena Vista at Cowles Fieldhouse. The dual is set to start at 7 p.m.
