Storm place two in finals at Coe
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Spencer Courier and Cory Stratton placed second at 133 and 149 pounds, respectively, leading Simpson at the Coe Turkey Invitational on Saturday.
Justin Bruce added a fourth-place finish at 174 pounds.
"After a long week, it was good to see our guys wrestle well," head coach Clint Manny said. "Its great to see us compete with ranked opponents."
Courier earned a 15-4 major decision over Missouri Baptist's Esmond Ford before knocking off Coe's Jordan Westphal 5-1 in the semifinals. Courier battled North Iowa Area CC's Kirk Sallis to overtime before falling 10-8 in sudden victory.
At 149 pounds, Stratton earned a pair of decisions before pinning Cornell's Jacob Schwebke in the semifinals. Stratton pinned Schwebke in 5:40 after Schwebke entered the match ranked ninth in the most recent NWCA Individual Poll.
Bruce won his first two decisions before falling to the wrestleback bracket. There, he defeated Iowa Western's Isaac Olson by technical fall before losing to Thomas Moman of Iowa Lakes 16-6 in the consolation championship.
The Storm travel to Luther on Dec. 3. Start time is set for 7 p.m.
