Edwardson wins 10k at IIAC Championships
MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - Ryan Edwardson won a conference championship in the 10,000 meters Friday, leading Simpson on the second day of the 2011 Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Ash Park Stadium.
Edwardson (Spencer, Iowa), a junior, won his first Iowa Conference Championship. He took the 10k in 31:42.82. The men's team sits in seventh place with 17 points after the second of three days.
Freshman Josh Diehm (Waterloo, Iowa) took fifth in the high jump after clearing 6-feet, 4 inches (1.93 meters). The conference's defending triple jump champion, John Cord (Atlantic, Iowa) finished eighth in the long jump with a leap of 21-3 1/4 (6.48 meters).
Matt Stone (Boone, Iowa) came within .04 seconds of tying a personal best in the 800 meters, registering the top qualifying time in 1:57.18. Ted Heying (Sumner, Iowa) and Cole Reese (Runnells, Iowa) qualified for the finals in the 400-meter hurdles. Heying placed seventh (58.38) and Reese placed eighth (59.42).
The Iowa Conference Championships conclude Saturday from Mount Vernon.
