Schott's triple jump leads Simpson at UNI
CEDAR FALLS - Jarrod Schott won the triple jump, leading Simpson at the UNI Invite on Friday.
No team scores were kept in the final tune-up before this weekend's Iowa Conference Championships in Pella.
Schott's bound of 40-9 bested the four-man field, the Storm's lone first-place effort on the day. The junior added a 10th-place finish in the long jump, leaping 20-4 1/2.
A pair of middle distance runners, Matt Stone and Josh Warnke, put forth career-best efforts. Stone took fifth in the 800 meters, clocking a 1:56.10, bettering his previous best of 1:56.86. Warnke ran to a sixth-place finish in the 1,000 meters, crossing the finish line in 2:40.34. His previous best was 2:45.98.
Other top-ten finished included freshman Leif Jepson in the 600 (5th, 1:26.39), Brad Vogel in the 60 (7th, 7.07), Logan Dorpinghaus in the 600 (9th, 1:29.40), Rory Hennessy in the weight throw (9th, 45-1 3/4), and Brandon Christensen in the 400 (10th, 52.10).
The Iowa Conference Championships will take place at Central's H.S. Kuyper Fieldhouse on Feb. 25-26. The multi-event competition is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Friday while the field events are slated for 4 p.m. with the running events at 6 p.m. The two-day meet will conclude Saturday.
