DES MOINES - Ryan Edwardson set a meet record in winning the 10,000-meter run and Chelsey Degen won the discus throw, leading Simpson at the Jim Duncan Invitational held Friday and Saturday at Drake Stadium.

Edwardson (Spencer, Iowa) dominated the competition in the 10,000 meters, running a 31:39.86. He easily beat the meet record of 31:53.43 by Truman State's Adam Kell in 2009 and shaved more than four minutes off his previous personal best of 35:43.61, also set in 2009.

April Sigmund (Jewell, Iowa) ran a 61.48 in the 400-meter dash, good enough for 10th-place.

Competing in the javelin throw for the first time in his career a week ago, John Cord (Atlantic, Iowa) registered a heave of 147-3 to take eighth in the event.

Jarrod Schott (Pocahontas, Iowa) took eighth in the long jump, reaching 21-3 1/4.

Jake Sutton (West Des Moines, Iowa) finished nine places behind Edwardson in the 10,000 meters, placing 10th with a time of 33:44.72.

The men's and women's track and field teams return to action Tuesday, April 19 when they travel to the Loras Midweek Invitational in Dubuque.
