Simpson opens season at Wartburg Select

WAVERLY - The Simpson men's track and field team opened the 2011 outdoor season at the Wartburg Select on Saturday, placing 14th.

Iowa Central won the meet with 172 points.

Brad Vogel turned in Simpson's top performance of the day with a ninth place effort in the 100 meter dash, crossing the finish line in 11.06 seconds. He was one spot away from qualifying for finals.

Distance runner Mitchell Davis came in 10th in the 5,000 meters, running a 15:37.55. Matt Stone added an 18th-place finish in the 1,500 meters, running a 4:10.73.

In field events, Jarrod Schott took 11th in the triple jump (41-0 1/2) and Lance Kramer placed 12th in the high jump, clearing 5-10.

Simpson returns to action Saturday, April 9 at the Cornell Invitational in Mount Vernon.
