Simpson men earn six top-5 finishes at Cornell

MT. VERNON - Long-jumper Jarrod Schott produced the top finish of the day, highlighting Simpson's performance at the Cornell Hilltop Invitational on Saturday.

Simpson placed in the top-5 in six events at the invitational. No team scores were kept.

"I thought it was another good improvement for us," head coach Dave Cleveland said. "We are taking steps in the right direction. The kids who need to perform well are on the right track and the young kids are getting valuable experience."

Schott took third-place in the long jump with a leap of 21-0 1/2. His effort was the best of the NCAA Division III participants in the event.

A trio of athletes took home fourth-place finishes, including Josh Diehm in the high jumpo (6-1 1/2), Ryan Edwardson in the 3,000 meters (9:11.17) and Ethan Elkin in the pole vault (11-11 3/4).

Brandon Christensen finished fifth in the 400 meters (52.30), as did Matt Stone in the 800 (2:00.38).

Simpson returns to action next weekend when it takes part in the Grinnell Pentathlon and Grinnell Open. The pentathlon takes place Friday, Feb. 11 while the open will be held Saturday.
