Football Preview: Chicago

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The Simpson football team looks to even its record on Saturday as the University of Chicago visits town for a 1 p.m. contest inside Buxton Stadium.

The Storm (0-1) lost 42-10 to Bethel in the season opener in Arden Hills, Minn. last Saturday. The Maroons (0-1) come into this matchup following a 43-7 loss against Washington (Mo.).

The game will be streamed live on SimpsonAthletics.com as Todd Guessford and Bryan Geelan will have the call for the Storm, pregame starts at 12:15 p.m.

FIRST AND 10: The Storm are eyeing evening their record in the final nonconference game of the season after last week's 42-10 loss at Bethel … Simpson got on the board in the beginning of the second quarter on a career-long field goal of 36 yards from senior Zach Kreider … junior Joe Meyer punched it in from the 2-yard line in the fourth quarter to give the team its first touchdown of the year.

CHICAGO SERIES NOTES: This is the second meeting between the programs, with the first one taking place last season … the Storm won the inaugural contest, 21-0, on the road at Amos Alonzo Stagg Field in the Windy City on Sept. 8, 2018 … Simpson went up 14-0 at the half and tacked on another score in the fourth quarter to seal the win … the Storm have experience playing teams in the Midwest Conference and hold an overall record of 29-45-1.

ABOUT THE MAROONS: Chicago comes into the contest after falling to Washington (Mo.), 43-7 … the Maroons amassed 278 yards of total offense, with 201 coming through the air … Chicago threw on 46 instances as quarterback Jeffrey Jackson went 21-for-40 with 169 yards … Dante Nepa was his favorite target, who grabbed four passes for 69 yards … Jarrod Huther was their top tackler last Saturday with 15 tackles, eight solo, two tackles for loss and forced one fumble … Chicago finished 2018 with a 7-3 mark and 4-1 record in the MWC.

BARTLETT HITS CENTURY MARK: Senior Sam Bartlett recorded his second 100-yard receiving game in his career on Saturday … Bartlett finished with 119 yards and had a long of 28 yards … he hit the century mark last year with 109 yards in the team's 29-7 win over Coe.

TRIO OF TACKLERS: Simpson had three players with nine tackles last week to lead the team … Chris Bowles, Brendan Holmes and Quinn Slaven starred on defense in the opener … Slaven tallied six solo tackles for first on the team from his secondary spot.

KREIDER KICKS: Senior Zach Kreider tallied his career long last week at Bethel with a 36-yard boot to put the Storm on the board in the second quarter … Kreider tallied 81 yards on three punts during the game and had a long of 33 yards … he also placed one ball inside the 20-yard line.
